[SPOTIO: Troubleshooting](https://support.spotio.com/knowledge-base?hsLang=en#spotio-troubleshooting) September 25, 2026 # How to Check GPS Settings ## There are times when you are unsure that your GPS is properly tagging your visits in the SPOTIO app. We’re going to show you how to check if SPOTIO has access to your phone’s GPS.  ***For:** Sales Reps and anyone using the SPOTIO mobile app · **Where:** Mobile app (iPhone, iPad, and Android) · **Plan:** All plans* --- SPOTIO needs permission to use your phone's location. Set SPOTIO's location access to **While Using the App** (or **Always**) and turn on **Precise Location** in your phone's Settings app. SPOTIO uses your phone's location to verify your visits, find the address you're standing at, and build your GPS Trail. If location access is off or set to approximate, visits may be marked unverified and your trail may be incomplete. These settings are in your phone's own Settings app, not in SPOTIO. #### What each option means - **While Using the App** (iPhone) or **Allow only while using the app** (Android): SPOTIO can use your location while the app is open. This is the minimum SPOTIO needs. - **Always** (iPhone) or **Allow all the time** (Android): SPOTIO can also use your location while the app is in the background. This can help GPS Trails record more of your day, but it isn't guaranteed. For the most complete trail, keep SPOTIO open while you're working. - **Ask Next Time or When I Share** (iPhone) or **Ask every time** (Android): location is shared only after you approve the prompt. - **Never** (iPhone) or **Don't allow** (Android): SPOTIO can't use your location. Visits won't be verified, and no GPS Trail is recorded. Also turn on **Precise Location** (iPhone) or **Use precise location** (Android). Without it, your phone shares only an approximate location. ### From the SPOTIO App 1. In the SPOTIO mobile app, tap your **profile icon** in the top right corner of the Home screen to open Settings. 2. Tap **Notifications**, then tap **In-app Notifications**. 3. Tap **Change System Settings**. This opens your phone's settings for the SPOTIO app. 4. Tap **Permissions**, then tap **Location**. 5. On iPhone, select **Always** or **While Using the App**. On Android, select **Allow all the time** or **Allow only while using the app**. 6. On iPhone, turn on **Precise Location**. Open the **Settings** app. 2. Scroll down and tap **SPOTIO**. 3. Tap **Location**. 4. Select **While Using the App** or **Always**. 5. Turn on **Precise Location**. #### How to Check SPOTIO GPS Settings on Android Devices 1. Open the **Settings** app. 2. Tap **Apps**, then tap **SPOTIO**. 3. Tap **Permissions**, then tap **Location**. 4. Select **Allow only while using the app** or **Allow all the time**. 5. Turn on **Use precise location**. On some phones, including Samsung, you can also go to **Settings** \> **Location** \> **App permissions** \> **SPOTIO**.  #### FAQs **What happens if I don't allow location access?** SPOTIO works best and most accurately when you have allowed location accessso you don't have to worry about searching for the address you are currently at. We want you to work most efficiently and quickly, which having location turned on will help with. **Do I need to choose Always?** No. *While Using the App* is enough for SPOTIO to work.
